We are very excited about the grant from the Scottish Wellbeing Fund to create new paths in the old township and spruce up the existing walks round the shore path. This was awarded to the TDCA with support from TKCC. The benches and picnic tables are on order and Seamus and Ruaraidh have been busy strimming the new path on the Eastern Side of the old township, many thanks to both of them. We need a variety of skills and you can do as much as your time allows – every little bit helps. On the Paths: Making the paths good – filling in holes/fixing posts/levelling rest stops for the benches/putting in 2 small bridges/benches and tables need to be made up and fixed into place/sanitiser dispensers to be put on gates/small amount of strimming to do (Bring your own strimmer!). Very few of these tasks require specialist skills or tools and guidance will be given. Someone with design/drawing skills to create a map of the walks. This will be used as the information board. This could include some history of the old township, if there are any local historians who could help or do some research on this. This information will need to be translated into written Gaelic. We need someone who can take a good quality panoramic picture of the view from the top of the walk for use on the information ‘viewfinder’ signage. The distances need to be worked out, does anyone have a strava type app or similar to do this? We are planning on getting together and walking the route next Thursday 9th July at 10.30am. If you would like to volunteer please contact TKCCCOVID19@gmail.com with what you would like to help with. Don’t worry if you can’t make next Thursday, there will be other opportunities. This will be a fun project to be involved with and add amenity to Torridon for both locals and visitors. The views from the top of the township walk are fabulous and we hope it will inspire people to get a bit more active. We will of course observe all the COVID rules and PPE and sanitiser will be available where it is needed and refreshments and cake will be provided. Boots are not essential but footwear with grips is suggested. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday. Mat and Zoe
