TORRIDON COMMUNITY CENTRE - NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2021

Dear Members and Friends

Wow, 2021 is almost over, where did that go?

We hope you are all looking forward to the festivities and staying as positive as possible in these uncertain times. Over the last few months, it has been great to see so many people feeling confident enough to attend groups, classes and events at the Centre. As always, we will continue to keep an eye on the up-to-date Covid related guidance and adapt our way of operating as required. This latest newsletter hopefully provides you with a update on what is coming up at the Centre.

Whats on?

Lis will be holding her annual cheese fair at the centre. Lots of locally made goodies for Christmas, including cakes by Connie & Mike in aid of the Highland Hospice. There are also some pretty fantastic raffle prizes as well, so why not come along and grab yourself a few tasty treats.

Keep an eye on what’s going on via our website or facebook:

  • Wee Whistle Stop Café will close after 18th December, reopening on 14th February

  • Your local Post Office outreach service is back in business on a Tuesday 11am to 1pm. This is now provided by Lochcarron Post Office. You can carry out the usual post office type transactions including withdrawing cash from your bank account using your debit card. Effectively Torridon has an ATM for 2 hours a week! Please support this valuable service as much as possible.

Supporting the Centre

  • We are a membership organisation. If you are not already a member, please consider joining for only £3 a year. A very quick and easy application form is available from Wilma via manager@lochtorridoncentre.co.uk or to pick up at the desk. For those already members, the annual fee is now payable. Either via bank transfer: Sort Code 80-91-26 / Account No: 00900785 or please pop into Reception if paying cash.

Beyond the Centre: Community Survey

  • As mentioned in the September newsletter, a number of the TDCA team have been working with SCDC (Scottish Community Development Centre) and other organisations/individuals (COW Trust, Community Council) on a Community Survey. This was launched at the Centre in early November, with lots of positive chat and enthusiasm for making our area a better place to live.

  • The team have had a really healthy number of completed surveys - so many of your friends, neighbours and others in your household have already told them what they think. But have you? It's likely your opinions will be different, so please be sure to have your say. The deadline has now been extended until 31st December and should be completed on an individual basis, not per household.

  • By giving your views, you will help guide the future direction of the area. And have the chance to win £100, £50 or £25 through the free prize draw!

We hope you enjoy seeing the Christmas tree in Fasaig village, and get chance to call into the hall to see the other decorations. Thanks to the Christmas party team for arranging the decorations and NTS for providing the trees. Looking forward to seeing you at the Community Centre in the run up to Christmas and at some of the great events already planned for 2022.
