Pole to Pole - Caroline Hamilton

My story began 20 years ago when a friend of mine was dating a polar explorer. He talked about what it was like to travel in the Arctic and the more he talked, the more I thought if he can do it, so can I. Whereupon I put together my first expedition which, to the horror of some in the polar community who back then were almost all men, was comprised solely of women. Over a hundred so-called ‘ordinary’ women applied to join, out of these I selected a team of 20. None of us had ever done anything like it before and, in an innovative relay format accompanied by two Canadian female guides, we became the first ever all-women team to ski to the North Pole.
